It is unfortunate that when one of the games on this list is turned off, it keeps you from playing the full game, is that not what "Mac OS X" is all about? I do not mind having to pay for the software I want to download; I am so used to this and the thought of being connected to the internet bothers me. For me, it is a not a security issue or a worry of software theft. I just wish that I could download for free anything I wanted to see.
The news that Wolfenstein Enemy Territory does not offer downloads on the Mac is as important as the fact that the game does not offer downloads to all computers running Windows XP. Although there is a fee for installing the game, you would be hard pressed to find one single Mac-based computer in the world that could not download the free version of the game. This comes as quite a surprise to me, since this is such a popular game. But there is no end in sight and more free versions will be offered on the Mac App Store in the future. In fact, I hope that the same thing happens with Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. I would much rather pay for a game on a machine I use to run and play on, then have to buy one on a machine I do not use.
The logic is very simple. If one wants to download a game that is not on the Mac App Store, they will have to go to a web site that is allowed to be downloaded by Macs. If that site is not supported on the Mac computer, then they are not going to be able to download the game. Hopefully there is not a lack of support for the Mac at the web site, but if there is, I am not one to stand for piracy.
